Looking for recommendations. Profile: 37 year old male, 6' 2" 218lbs, goal weight of 200lbs. Sedentary desk job. Exercise: Daily 5 mile walk in zone 2, 3x/week HIIT training. I do a lot of other unstructured walking where I don't care about my heart rate, in total I walk about 20k steps/day. Diet: 2400 calories with 190g of protein. I track all my macros but don't care as much about carbs and fat, my main focus is hitting my protein and calorie targets. Hi veryone! So, I’ve been on a major health journey. Back in March, I was 431 lbs. Severe health anxiety, heart palpitations, and a genuine fear of having a heart attack finally pushed me to change my neural pathways and build consistency. Today I am 382.3 lbs. I work 10 hour night shifts driving a stand up forklift. 50% to 75% of my job is getting off the machine, cutting plastic, and up stacking heavy pallets. I am constantly bouncing and absorbing vibrations. Because of my weight and the job, my feet take an absolute beating. I spend 30 dollars a week on 4% lidocaine patches putting 3 to 4 on my heels and palms daily, plus moleskin patches, 200 dollar orthopedic shoes, and 56 dollar insoles just to survive the shift. Because my legs feel like they do a 5 hour gym workout every night, I am strictly skipping leg day until I drop another 30 to 40 lbs. My training focuses entirely on upper body. I do fasted morning workouts before my shift using a push up board (sets of 20-25) and heavy 50lb resistance bands. I do multiple grips, slow negatives, and just hit a PR of 60 reps today. Magnesium L-threonate (Magtein) is often marketed like it’s a special “brain magnesium,” but the actual biology is much simpler. It is just magnesium bound to a compound called threonate (Threonic Acid). In digestion, this salt breaks apart into magnesium ions (Mg²⁺) and a metabolite called threonic acid. Once absorbed: **Magnesium (Mg²⁺)** is the only active form your body actually uses It goes into the bloodstream and is regulated the same way all other forms of magnesium are. (A bunch doesn’t go straight to the brain, there are still rate limiting factors) Your brain, muscles, nerves, etc. all use the same magnesium ion as if you ingested it from leafy greens **What about threonic acid?** Threonic acid is basically just a breakdown product of vitamin C metabolism. After absorption it: gets processed like any other small organic acid. It has no known special role in boosting cognition or directing magnesium to the brain does not act as a “carrier” or brain-targeting mechanism So in simple terms: threonic acid does not do anything unique in the body related to brain effects or magnesium delivery. (Not discounting its bioavailability and transport into the body, but nothing tells me it’s more bioavailable than other forms i.e. bisglycinate. Pure Encapsulations a ripoff?

I see this brand recommended but I don't get why. Their products are really overpriced to the point of being a ripoff and the nutritional performance is average from what I've seen. For example, their magnesium glycinate pills on amazon - the largest quantity is 360 pills a bottle, each pill 120mg. Fairly standard strength but more on that below. The price for that is 83.60. I recently bought Doctor's Best magnesium glycinate, considered an excellent brand, 240 pills, each pill 100mg. So slightly lower strength than PE but pretty much the same. However I only paid 13.64 for it. I could buy 6x DB bottles for the same price as PE. That's 1440 pills. Why would I ever buy the PE brand? I have't looked through ALL their products so maybe they have something that's considered high quality. I've only looked at their magnesium glycinate and ashwagandha (which is also questionable).
